SCSA Awards Recognition Program

The South Carolina Sheriffs' Association Awards Program recognizes and awards outstanding performance of a deputy sheriff or citizen in a variety of areas. A request for award recognition along with pertinent details must be submitted to the SCSA Executive Director for approval. A certificate and medal will be provided to the Sheriff for award at a time and venue of his choosing. The cost for award medals if $75.00.

Civilian Medal of Appreciation
This award is to thank a citizen for support of law enforcement by services or an act of valor. It can also be used to recognize private security whose actions aid local law enforcement.

Criminal Investigation Award
In recognition of those detectives or investigators who perform an outstanding job in solving cases.

Detention Officer Award
Possibly the most overlooked peace officers are those men and women who take into custody persons charged with crimes, who are later convicted and placed in jails or prisons. This award is for 5 or more years of honorable services or for an act/deed that promotes safety within the jail or prison for inmates and fellow officers. It also acts as a service medal for anyone who has retired from the corrections profession.

Distinguished Police Service Award
For long and honorable service as a law enforcement officer for 5 or more years, or given at retirement.

Honor Award for Public Service
This award may be issued to law enforcement officers, elected officials or citizens whose leadership skills are outstanding in reducing crime or assisting departments in volunteer activities.

K-9 Memorial
For the K-9 police dog killed in the line of duty.

K-9 Service
For the K-9 police dog that assists in the apprehension of criminals and the prevention of crime.

Legion Of Honor
For officers who while performing their duties are injured. If they require medical attention and are off duty for 3 days or more, this award is issued.

Life Saving Award
For law enforcement, EMTs, firefighters or citizens whose actions save the life of a fellow citizen in an emergency.

Merit Award For Excellent Arrest
This award covers any peace officers who while on or off duty arrests a dangerous felon.

Outstanding Commendation
This award is for those law enforcement officers who should be commended for an outstanding act during the performance of their duties.

Police Medal Of Honor
This medal with a certificate and memorial flag are provided without cost to the family of an officer killed in the line of duty.
